D’Backs break ground on first baseball academy in Dominican Republic

Boca Chica, Dominican Republic.- President Danilo Medina on Tues. headed groundbreaking for the first academy in the country of the Major League Baseball team, Arizona Diamondbacks, in a town 20 miles from the capital, Santo Domingo.

The complex which will create 160 direct and indirect jobs will be built on ​​15.7 hectares of land located in El Paredón de Boca Chica.

It will accommodate 160 people including players who will strive to reach the Major Leagues through the Arizona Diamondbacks team.

Present in the ceremony were Arizona Diamondbacks president Derrick Hall, Diamondbacks Vice President of Operations for Latin America Junior Noboa; US Embassy interim envoy Robert Copley, and players and executives.
