School year starts Mon. with 2.7M students

Santo Domingo.- Education minister Andrés Navarro on Wed. said that everything is ready to start the 2018-2019 school year on Monday, Aug. 20,with 2.7 million students enrolled  in both the public and private sector.

In an Education Ministry press conference the official said only in the public system there are more than 80,000 teachers in the more than 7,500 educational centers.

He said there are 2.2 million students enrolled in public schools and around 600,000 in private schools.

Navarro added that this school year will start with nearly 70% of the students enrolled in full-day classes, or 1.3 million and that more than 300,000 will form part of the Digital Republic program for thech training.
