Industries eye the cash in trash

Santo Domingo.- The articulation among companies and institutions that form part of the logistics chain of trash collection and management, as well as promoting recycling and reuse of solid waste are the key links to reduce it and establish a circular economy model, fundamental to ensure that Dominican society -including its companies- assumes a culture of responsibility that guarantees environmental sustainability.

Dominican Industries Association (AIRD) executive vice president Circe Almanzar made the statement and affirmed that recent statistics show that the country generates more than 12,000 tons of waste per day and approximately 10% of that is plastics.

She cautioned however that their level of recycling and reuse is very low, thus losing the opportunity for new business, to generate formal jobs, save foreign exchange and improve their profitability.

Work breakfast

Almánzar’s remarks came prior to announcing the AIRD working breakfast, “Circular Economy: A business model based on the management of plastic waste. Learning from Mexico’s experience,” set for 8am Tues. in the AIRD Business Tower.
