Odebrecht US$92.0M graft case recessed until Oct. 1

Santo Domingo.- Supreme Court of justice, Francisco Ortega, on Wed. recessed the hearing until October 1 at 9am for the accused to review the evidence against them and devise their defense.

The defense asked Polanco to grant 60 days to examine the prosecution’s evidence, and three expert witnesses on money laundering and for the part of the indictment written in Portuguese to be translated into Spanish.

The prosecution for its part opposed the request, noting that 20 days would be enough for the defense to review all the evidence.

The hearing which lasted past midnight forms part of the pending trial against seven charged with taking US$92.0 million in bribes from Brazilian construction company Odebrecht, which admitted the crime in the country between 2001 and 2014.
