America’s Got Talent teen proud of her Dominican roots

Santo Domingo.- Amanda Mena, the Dominican-American teen who has captivated millions for her performances in the reality show America’s Got Talent, always thinks about her roots when she is on stage.

In the performance that earned her a spot in the semifinal round she showcased her impressive vocal range with the song “What about us?”

“What About Us is dedicated to the immigrants who are going to look for a better life and end up in not very good situations because of the comments of the people,” Mena said, quoted by Listin Diario.

Her parents, both Dominicans, emigrated to the United States in search of a better future. “I feel that very close to my heart, because my parents are originally from the Dominican Republic and they came here and created a better life for me and my brothers.”
