Santo Domingo.- “We have to remind them that we won a trial in the TSA (Superior Administrative Court) and that it was upheld by the Constitutional Court, which gives us the power to hire those we want and if they are not available, we will look for ways for us to haul our goods,” National Business Council (Conep), president Pedro Brache warned Thursday in response to a called to strike by truckers.
He said any stoppage must be done s in a peaceful way and that if they block the ports they will request the use of law enforcement to have access and move their merchandise “as is our right, recently upheld by the Constitutional Court.”
For her part Dominican Industries Association (AIRD) vice president Circe Almanzar said she hopes that, if they carry out the strike, don’t hinder the activities at the ports and free transit and transport. “We hope they reflect because it’s useless to make a strike that generates losses for them and for the entire country, in addition international oil prices is something that we do not control.”
Earlier Thursday truckers union (Fenatrado) leader Ricardo de los Santos said the truckers find it impossible to continue hauling cargo with the current fuel prices and other operating costs..
