Santo Domingo.- US ambassador Robin Bernstein’s visit to Santo Domingo mayor David Collado, which included a donation of seven trash collection trucks, could herald improved diplomatic relations with Washington.

The timing of the donation is notable, since it occurs during a US-China trade and diplomatic war.

“Without a doubt, we respect their sovereign right to determine their relations, but we hope that those decisions will be taken with a clear vision towards future and recognizing how those decisions affect their partners, their people and their sovereignty,” Bernstein said at the official reception last week.

She also labeled the US relations with the region as having “matured.” “This assistance has moved from infrastructure projects of the 2h century to capacity building, citizen security and economic growth.”
