After Haitians kidnap doctors, Army ramps up raids in SW

Pedernales, Dominican Republic.- Dozens of Haitians who were scattered in villages and sectors of Pedernales province (southwest) were arrested and escorted in two buses of the Immigration holding facility after raids carried out since Monday by Immigration inspectors, Border Security officers and Army soldiers.

The arrests come just three days after a group of Haitians kidnapped prominent Dr. Pedro Ureña and other professionals riding motorcycles on the border highway.

Local media report that the sweeps against undocumented Haitians have increased since Mon. night.
