Economic activity grows 6.9%: Central Bank

Activity. The private construction sector continues to grow in the Dominican Republic.

Santo Domingo.- Last October, the Dominican economy achieved a very healthy growth of 6.9% according to IMAE (Monthly Indicator of Economic Activity). This trend shows that the Dominican Republic’s gross domestic product (GDP) is increasing above its potential, maintaining regional leadership throughout Latin America.

The sectors of construction, manufacturing of free zones, communications, education, and agriculture were the fastest growing in the first 10 months of this year.

According to the statistics of the IMAE and the National Accounts Department of the Central Bank (BCRD), the construction sector was the most dynamic between January and October, which is reflected in the growth of construction of homes and other buildings carried out by the industry. Due to financial arrangements,  affordable housing was chosen over private household construction.
