Dominican slugger Machado inks record US$300M deal: ESPN

Santo Domingo.- Dominican slugger Manny Machado, one of the baseball market’s top free agents, reached an agreement with the San Diego Padres, ESPN reports Tuesday quoting league sources.

The US$300 million, 10-year deal would be the highest contract in US sports history.

Machado, a four-time All-Star and two-time Gold Glove Award 3rd baseman, earned US$16 million between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Baltimore Orioles last season.

The 26-year-old posted a career maximum OPS of .905 in 2018, finishing the season with 37 homers, 107 RBIs and 14 stolen bases. In 66 regular-season games with the Dodgers, Machado hit .273 with 13 homers and 42 RBIs.
