Santiago wants a rebuilt port not just repairs

Santiago.-  The local Chamber of Commerce and other institutions grouped in Commitment Santiago expect a reconstruction of the port at Manzanillo (northwest) not just a simple repair.

The business group said it remains over the immediate future of Manzanillo. It reiterates the importance of going beyond a simple repair, which in their view doesn’t surmount the hurdles such as being able to dock major ships.

They caution that the port’s entire development must be properly planned, preparing it to incorporate new equipment and technology. “A limited and partial repair, without future prevision, would maintain the status quo and prevent the balanced development of the entire region.”

They added that expanding and modernizing the port is demanded by the region.
