Blaze in Santo Domingo’s Acropolis Center engulfs entire 2nd floor

Santo Domingo.- A blaze at 4pm Tues., charred a floor of the upscale tower, Acropolis Center, which houses the corporate offices of several transnationals, including Citi Bank, Barrick Gold, Viva Resorts, AES Dominicana and CEMEX, and the Japanese Embassy as well.

Witnesses said all personnel were evacuated, and no injuries were reported

The fire appears to have started in the second floor, site of several restaurants, the witness said. They said firefighter are at the scene.

Acropolis is located on Winston Churchill Av., in the financial district, Piantini
