Truckers to walkout Fri.; demand ‘clear’ fuel prices

Santo Domingo.- Dominican Republic’s biggest truckers union (Fenatrado) on Wed. said it will halt all its freight rigs nationwide for six hours on Friday to demand that the Industry and Commerce Ministry explain “transparently and with absolute clarity the methodology used to establish the variations weekly fuel prices.”

It said the walkout will begin 6am Fri. and conclude at 12 noon.

In a press release Fenatrado said the decision was made Wednesday by the council federation. “The variations in the prices of fuels, especially the continuous increases that are applied, as has happened in recent weeks, cause a situation of serious instability.”
