Corales Puntacana Resort & Club will host the second edition of the PGA TOUR in the Dominican Republic

Santo Domingo Dominican Republic. For the second consecutive year the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship of the PGA TOUR will be held in the country, at the Corales golf course, from March 25 to 31, 2019.

The details of this grand sporting event were announced at the official press conference, which was attended by Messrs. Frank Rainieri, president and CEO of Grupo Puntacana, Manuel Sajour, Executive Marketing Director of Grupo Puntacana, Hiram Silfa, director of golf at Puntacana Resort & Club, and Carlos Elmudesi, president of the Dominican Golf Federation, among other personalities of Dominican golf.

In this second edition are expected more than 130 players, who will compete for a purse of three million dollars, the highest in the history of Dominican sports, and to accumulate points of the FedEx Cup.

Professionals will participate from countries such as Argentina, United States Mexico, Belgium, Spain, Germany, China, Japan, England, France, Sweden, Switzerland, Australia, as well as the Dominican Republic.

During his speech, Frank Rainieri spoke about the importance of having a PGA TOUR Event in the Dominican Republic for the second year in a row, “which continues to position us on the world map as the leading golf destination in the Caribbean, which combines the best of sport with spectacular beaches and an exquisite culture, in the eyes of a guest golfer.”

Hiram Silfa, director of golf at Puntacana Resort & Club, explained that so far have been confirmed Davis Love III, American player and multiple PGA winner and major tournaments; Trevor Immelman, South African player and master winner; and David Lipsky, American player, number 1 on the European Tour. Tony Romo, ex-NFL player and commentator for CBS Sports in the United States, is one of the great figures of the sport who will return to the event after having accepted the sponsor’s exemption for the second time.

The PGA TOUR Event is organized by Puntacana Resort & Club, which, in addition to enjoying the ultimate golf experience in the Caribbean and Latin America, will guarantee players enjoy the tourist attractions of the leading destination in the region.

Last year this professional tournament achieved a reach of one billion viewers at a television level in 226 countries and territories, generating 8.3 billion impressions through national and international media and with an attendance of more than 20,000 people during the week of the event .

Benefits for tourism

For his part, the executive director of Grupo Puntacana Marketing, Manuel Sajour, explained that “at Puntacana Resort & Club we offer the golf tourist a complete package: flights, hotel reservations, golf rounds, transportation, food and beverages; adding all this to the packages, we are talking about an industry of 300 million dollars per year which represents initiatives like the PGA TOUR Event for the Dominican Republic.”

He added that US$175,000 will be allocated from the funds generated to the social and environmental projects of the Grupo Puntacana Foundation and US$10,000 to promote the development of youth golf in the country.
