Italian contractor ‘unaware’ of graft in Dominican power plant

Ever darker: Odebrecht scandal.

Italy investigates major project on the Caribbean island

Santo Domingo.- The on ongoing investigations into the Punta Catalina power plant project in the Dominican Republic that appeared in the press prompted the contractor Maire Tecnimont to express its determination to cooperate fully with the Italian investigating authorities.

It reaffirms its non-involvement in the facts covered by the investigations and its confidence in the prompt positive conclusion of the investigations, “says Tecnimont in a statement.

“We also specify that in the Punta Catalina work order mentioned above, the Tecnimont subsidiary only provided engineering and procurement services and assistance for the commissioning of the power plant as part of an EPC project (Engineering, Procurement & Construction), carried out by a consortium whose agent is the Brazilian company Oderbrecht which, as such, negotiated and signed the corresponding contract and which has always maintained in an independent and exclusive manner the relations with the CDEEE of the final client, including all the phase of commercial negotiation,” says the press release.

“It’s believed that the investigation of the Prosecutor’s Office of Milan – activated by the complaint of the NGO RE: As it has been mentioned by the press, is a due act on the part of the investigating authorities and will allow, as has already been said, to also show the total unawareness of Tecnimont with respect to any irregularity.”

“In addition, it has already been verified by the Brazilian and Dominican investigating authorities, which have decided not to involve in any way the company and its managers in the investigations that concluded with the acknowledgment of the responsibility of Odebrecht for the acts committed in relation to certain projects it carried out in Latin America,” says Tecnimont, part of the conglomerate Odebrecht-Tecnimont-Estrella.
