Santo Domingo.- Punta Catalina power plant workers have blocked traffic at a busy intersection downtown Santo Domingo, to demand the Labor Minister’s response to their claim of payment of their bonuses from the Odebrecht-Tecnimont-Estrella consortium.

The workers forced a mixer truck to block traffic, which prompted police officers to hurl tear gas to disperse them.

A National Police senior officer told the workers to clear the avenue and remain in front of the Ministry, but they refused.

A tense atmosphere has gripped the area of govt. offices since Wed. morning, as workers demand the payment of 100% of their bonuses, both for active and laid off staff.
