Social Security turns 20, covers 80% of Dominicans

Santo Domingo.- Santiago Merchants and Industries Association (ACIS) president Sandy Filpo, said Thurs. that the Dominican Republic has improved its Social Security and despite that the “desired model” hasn’t been reached, 8 million people have coverage.

In his speech to open the 4th. Congress on Prevention and Labor Risks, Filpo said it’s important to reiterate that of the country’s 10 million people, Social Security covers 8 million. “I must admit that for this advance to have the results is due mostly to the healthy leadership of its officials.”

He added that the Social Security Law is heading for 20 years since enacted, “and in the last six years has been transformed in such a way that it has almost allowed the universality of occupational health and risk systems.”
