Wage hike debacle: unions are no-shows, employers ‘distressed’

Santo Domingo.- Tuesday’s meeting of the National Salary Committee (CNS) failed as the unions were no-shows, a decision labeled as irresponsible by the business leaders.

The meeting was postponed without a date.

After the tripartite meeting, Dominican Industry Association executive vice president, Circe Almanzar, said employers are “in distress” due to the authorities’ “irresponsible failure” to make decisions and the attitude of the trade unions.

“We the companies are in an uncertainty. And how is it possible that we are in this situation of anxiety, of irresponsibility, of not making decisions; we have had seven meetings, the first time we have a situation like this and there is no decision.”
