Authorities mum as  the capital awakes to heightened patrols

Santo Domingo.- The capital city awoke to heightened police-military patrols today Thursday, as motorists and motorcyclists are being stopped and asked to produce driver documents.

Wearing camouflage garb and carrying long weapons and protective helmets, the officers and soldiers have been posted in several major arteries

The authorities have yet to state the reason for the unusual patrols, mainly in the National District.
