Free Zone textile exports jump 9.19% to US$240.4 to April

Santo Domingo.- Textile apparel exports to the United States climbed 9.19% from January to April, the National Free Trade Zones Council (CNZFE) revealed Tues.

The Textiles and Apparel Office (OTEXA) also posted an increase of 1.7%, said CNZFE director, Luisa Fernández in a press release. “The growth in exports of textile confections to the United States exceeded US$240.4 million during the first four months of the year.”

“This economic growth in the textile sector was influenced by exports of cotton shirts for men and boys, with an increase of 29.7%, coats for women with 115% and pants of synthetic fibers with 22.05%.”

She added that at yearend 2018 the Confections and Textiles sector exports exceeded US$1.1 billion, with a total of 102 companies in operation. “It continues to be one of the Dominican economy’s sectors with the highest number of direct jobs, with over 41,000.
