Dominican companies make, export biodegradable plastic to Jamaica

Santo Domingo.- The president of the Roundtable of the Commonwealth countries in the Dominican Republic, Fernando González Nicolás, on Fri. announced that local companies have started to manufacture and export biodegradable plastics to Jamaica, which he called “very positive for local exports and the permanence of plastics as packaging.”

“It’s worth noting that legislation in the English Caribbean is including the technology of biodegradation as a solution to the problem of pollution and that it is advisable to take into account successful experiences in reducing the pollution of plastics and support consensual laws to regulate the handling and contamination of these materials.”

Speaking to open the workshop “Biodegradation of plastic a solution to pollution” held in the Association of Industries, González Nicolás also stressed that the biodegradable plastic is a technology perfected by the British industry that has proven to be reliable, practical and economical to reduce the effect of those disposable materials after use.
