The first time once-powerful party has no presidential candidacy

Boca Chica, Dominican Republic. – For the first time since founded in 1966, the once-powerful right wing PRSC party will not have it’s own presidential candidacy, and instead will seek an alliance with other political organizations, most likely with the ruling PLD.

The National Political Commission made the decision in a meeting Sunday, in which PRSC president Carlos Morales was assigned “wide reaching powers to reach pacts and alliances with other political organizations, whether majority or not.”

The PRSC did not specify with which political party it will forge an alliance, but among its leaders it was “open secret” that it will be with PLD candidate Danilo Medina.

The PRSC’s demise began in 1996, year in which the then reformed Constitution prohibited its founder Joaquin Balaguer from seeking a fourth term.
