Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic has adopted security measures on the border with Haiti to prevent fuel trafficking to that country, where a shortage has shuttered most gas stations to close.
Defense minister Rubén Dario Paulino announced that a multiagency commission has been deployed in the area “to control smuggling and fuel transfer at our border.”
The official said however that the situation on the Dominican side of the common border is “stable and secure.” Local media report that Haitians are crossing into Dominican territory to refuel, which could lead to shortages in that area.
