El Popular: 1st Dominican bank certified Carbon-Neutral

Press Release

Santo Domingo.- As a result of a responsible banking model promoting sustainable actions, the Banco Popular Dominicano reported that it has achieved the category of Carbon-Neutral Organization, certified by the Brihgtline Institute, Inc., under the international standard ISO 14064- 1: 2006, being the first financial institution in the country to obtain it.

“This important environmental achievement means that the carbon footprint of Banco Popular, a consequence of the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions produced by its operations, is offset by the initiatives it carries out in favor of the environment and eco-efficiency,” the bank said in a statement.

These actions include reforestation days in the Plan Sierra and other areas of the country, its eco-efficiency and 3R culture programs among employees or solar energy production network in offices, among others.

“The determination of this financial organization is to continue our growth policy based on environmental sustainability criteria, sensitizing our customers, suppliers, employees and shareholders to the phenomenon of the climate crisis and developing new financial products and services under the vision of responsible banking, committed to the environment and society,” said Banco Popular executive president, Christopher Paniagua,
