US$163M Beltway spells relief for motorists, the city

Santo Domingo.- To reach Dominican Republic’s east region motorists from the north have to enter Grand Santo Domingo and risk hours in traffic jams.

Farm goods hauled in trucks from the south to east coast hotels lose freshness due to the congestion in the city.

The Santo Domingo Beltway could put an end to that by yearend. It will also mean a sigh of relief for transit of the Dominican capital.

On average, 67,000 vehicles enter the National District every day from other provinces, of which there is a large volume that goes to other regions.

Listín Diario reports that the final 70-kilometer stretch of the beltway will cost US$163 million.
