Resignations seal Dominican ruling party’s division

B. Rojas

Santo Domingo.- The ruling (PLD) party’s political faction led by former president Leonel Fernández o Thurs. began its separation from the Government, headed by president Danilo Medina’ group.

The tension remains in the ruling party, given the uncertainty of when the ex-president will point the way forward for who are his followers in that organization.

Although several of the winning candidates attended the swear-in before the National Electoral Commission, one of the coordinators of Fernández’s campaign team, Bautista Rojas, began the withdrawal Wednesday and resigned as minister without a portfolio.

Rojas was followed by Joaquín Gerónimo who also resigned as Ambassador to Cuba, among other officials.
