Ruling party opposes its ex-president’s candidacy

T. Montas.

Santo Domingo.- Dominican ruling party (PLD) interim president  Temístocles Montás, on Tue. announced that the organization will oppose the candidacy of former president Leonel Fernández, proclaimed by six political parties as their candidate.

“There is already a consensus in the Political Committee to oppose that candidacy, because it violates the Law of Political Parties and the Law of Electoral Regime, and someone who says he is a defender of the Constitution cannot violate it that way because he can.”

He said they have already prepared a work plan, which will be announced today at 7pm at the meeting of the Political Committee.

Interviewed on Zol-101-FM Montás affirmed that Fernández’s resignation “will relaunch and institutionalize the PLD, returning to democratic centralism.”
