The military to help 20,000 agents patrol during holidays

Santo Domingo.- Armed Forces minister Sigfrido Pared and National Police chief Joseph A. Polanco yesterday announced a platform designed for both entities to prevent crime during the yearend holidays.

The plan includes patrols with more than 20,000 police agents, and includes around 5,000 temporarily reassigned officers, selected from the various departments and offices.

"These 5,000 agents will join the 15,000 used regularly on patrols and prevention, which will allow us to deploy 20,000 officers in the various regions of the country to ensure a safe Christmas for citizens,” Polanco said.

Pared said the military will support the patrols, expanding the Preventive Police’s capacity to mobilize and deploy. ‘

“As we’ve always said, if prevention is weak if there’s greater insecurity among citizens,” the chief of police said.
