Cariforum’s two-day meeting ends in the Dominican Republic

Santo Domingo.– The Twentieth Meeting of the CARIFORUM Council of Ministers subgroup of African, Caribbean and Pacific countries ended Friday in the Dominican capital with a regional analysis of the use of the European Development Funds.

The agenda also planned a debate about the obstacles faced by rum exports from the Caribbean to the United States, and an evaluation of internal documents of this integration mechanism.

The two-days meeting focused on the Economic Partnership Agreement of most of the member countries of CARIFORUM with the European Union from the requirements to accommodate this standard to present time.

"Caribbean countries are giving examples of effectiveness and creativity in finding their own model of economic, social, political and cultural development," stated President Danilo Medina at the opening of the forum.

"We must overcome the prejudices and anachronistic attitudes of those who think we do not need our brothers and neighbors, and that we have no obligations to them and we do not need to be supportive," urged the head of state.
