Senator accused of embezzlement wins a court round

SANTO DOMINGO. – Supreme Court Justice judge Esther Agelán on Wednesday refused to declare ruling PLD party senator Felix Bautista in contempt, or confiscate his personal property said to be worth RD$125.0 million.

Agelan ruled against a motion filed ??by the lawyers grouped in the Cona, who challenged the shelving of an investigation into the legislator’s alleged acts of corruption, during the administrations of Leonel Fernandez, of which Bautista is one of his closest collaborators.

The Justice Ministry’s Anti-Corruption Dept. director Hotoniel Bonilla had ?? requested dropping the case as "unfair, unfounded and wrongful legal basis."

Bautista’s lawyers headed by Abel Rodriguez motioned to dismiss the case, noting that the lawmaker hasn’t been charged and that a temporary restraining order had been issued in his favor.
