Senator in RD$250M embezzlement case wont go to jail

Santo Domingo. – Supreme Court justice Alejandro Moscoso ruled against the prosecution’s request to incarcerate senator Amable Aristy, in the arraignment hearing, on charges he embezzled more than RD$250 million during his 14 years as head of the Dominican Municipal League.

The judge said the Justice Ministry failed to show that Aristy posed a flight risk, in the ruling handed down at 3:04pm.

Although the prosecution is expected to appeal, other details of the ruling have yet to be disclosed, and could include periodic appearance before the Office of the Santo Domingo Prosecutor.
