Santo Domingo.- The General Secretary of the country’s major opposition party (PRD) on Friday distanced itself from Santiago TV journalist Marcos Martinez, affirming that he doesn’t belong to that party and the organization has nothing to do with the Martinez’s accusation against the first lady, Margarita Cedeño.
In a press conference in PRD headquarters, Orlando Jorge acknowledged that Martinez was a local leader of the PRD in the 1980s, but noted that he later resigned and is currently a leader of the minority opposition PRI party.
Jorge’s statement comes in the heels of an uproar over Martinez’s affirmation that Cedeño and one of her relatives own an account of more than 40 million euros in Europe, which the First Lady denied on Thursday.
