Nearly identical Hamilton, Benenson polls: Ruling party ticket wins

SANTO DOMINGO.- The pollster Hamilton Tuesday morning revealed that the ruling PDL party ticket of Danilo Medina and Margarita Cedeño has 50% of the intention to vote, with 45% for the opposition PRD party’s Hipólito Mejía and Luis Abinader.

Its the second survey in less than 24 hours which taps the PLD candidate as the winner in the May 20 elections, with the poll by Benenson providing nearly identical numbers.

Hamilton said of the 1,200 people polled nationwide from February 11 to 14, 54% of those surveyed said the PLD’s alliance forged with the minor opposition PRSC party will contribute to Medina’s win; 31% said the opposite and 15% said they didn’t know.

The survey also found that for 72% of those asked said Cedeño’s candidacy has boosted Medina’s nomination, against 25% who consider that it hasn’t and 3% don’t know.

The poll whose margin of error is 2.8% also noted the intention to vote May 20 as very probable, 84%; something probable, 11% and not very approvable at 4%, figures which spurred Hamilton president David Beattie to predict a very tight electoral contest.
