El Dia hosts first ever conference on femicides

Santo Domingo. – Newspaper El Dia on Thursday became Latin America’s first medium to host a conference on femicide, affirmed international gender violence researcher Ana Carcedo.

She said she was surprised with the newspaper’s effort, as part of its 10th anniversary, with the support of the NGO Profamilia. “A forum such as this is an exception. I’ve neither seen it in Costa Rica, nor El Salvador, Nicaragua, nor in any country I’ve been to in the past, I think in all of Latin America; I’ve never been in a forum promoted by a newspaper, ever.”

Carcedo stressed the importance of dealing with the issue of femicide in the media and from an educational point of view, and in an integral manner.

As panelists in the event, held in the Hotel Barceló Convention Center, were El Dia editor in chief Rafael Molina Morillo, the feminist Susi Pola, researcher Luis Vergés, and National District DA Yeni Berenice Reynoso.
