Unknown Soldier headed to final resting place

Santo Domingo.- With military honors the remains of the Unknown Soldier were transferred yesterday from the Museum of the Dominican Man to the Armed Forces Ministry, where he’ll lie in state until tomorrow Tuesday.

Government and military representatives took part in the transfer ceremony, to culminate in his permanent resting place, the Plaza de la Bandera (plaza of the Flag) on 27 de Febrero, corner Luperon Av.

The Unknown Soldier was found in one of the battlefields of the War of Restoration near the city of Moca (north), and has since been the symbol of those fallen during that war, for Independence and other military conflicts in the country’s nearly 200 year history.
