Appeal hearing for Puerto Rican kingpin’s money laundering network set for May 7

Santo Domingo.- A National District court will hear on May 7 the appeal filed by seven of the eight convicted of forming part of Puerto Rican kingpin Jose Figueroa Agosto’s money laundering network.

The ruling in the National District 1st Court of Appeals aims to allow Madelin Bernard’s new attorney Freddy Mateo, to obtain all the documents to prepare her defense.

The appeals were filed by Mary Peláez, Sammy Dauhajre, Ricardo Ivanovich Smester and Juan Jose Fernandez, sentenced to 15 years prison, Eddy Brito, to 12 and Madeline Bernard, to 5 years at Najayo prison.

The other convict Sobeida Felix didn’t appeal her 5 year prison sentence, as agreed to on plea bargaining with the National District Prosecutor.
