Adriano Espaillat announces run for US Congress

New York.- Dominican born New York State senator Adriano Espaillat Wednesday announced his bid for the Democratic candidacy in the June primary, against representative Charles Rangel.

He said his run aims to give the Latino community a stronger voice. “I am evaluating the possibilities and I’ve already taken the first steps toward making a decision.”

Espaillat, quoted by EFE, said his advisors have started gathering signatures to secure his candidacy for the newly created 13th electoral district, as a result of the 2010 Census.

He said he needs a bit more than 900 signatures in the next four weeks to register for the June democrat primary, which will produce the candidate against the republican choice in the November 6 general elections.
