High Court’s first major ruling sends lawmaker to jail

Santo Domingo.- The Supreme Court today ruled to send a deputy to spend one year in prison, after the parents of a 19 year old girl accused him of raping her when she was 14.

Ramon Antonio Fernandez (Papo) had reached a RD$300,000 settlement with her relatives, but after he failed to pay, the family took him to court.

The sentence against the legislator is the major ruling by the newly formed Supreme Court.
