No deaths or missing in boat mishap, Navy

HIGUEY, Dominican Republic. – The Navy announced Thursday that there are no deaths, missing or injured from the yola type boat which sank around 400 meters from La Vacama beach near the coastal city Miches, where a total of 41 people tried to make the illegal crossing to Puerto Rico.

Naval Intelligence director Rudi Cruz only the Haitian Evelyn Josep, 25, fainted, was taken to a clinic in Higüey.

He said 24 foot boat had first set sail from Boca de Yuma, headed to the area of Cap Cana.

The Naval officer identified the boat’s captain as Manuel del Rosario Polanco and his assistant as Geramel Laureano Castillo, who managed to escape by swimming to shore.
