Retired Dominican Colonel in alleged plot against Haiti’s leader released (UPDATE)

SANTO DOMINGO.-Pedro Julio Goigo (Pepe) was questioned for more than one hour and then released. Yenny Berenice Reynoso didn’t set a new date for further interrogation.

FILE.- Retired colonel Julio "Pepe" Goico arrived at the Office of the National District Prosecutor for questioning into the alleged plot to destabilize the presidency of Haiti’s Michel Martelly.

Goico arrived at 3:55pm accompanied by the lawyers Ramon Pina, Rafael Suárez, Julio Cury, Manuel Sierra and Teolbaldo Durán, and at once entered the Office of the Prosecutor Yeni Berenice Reynoso, who had subpoenaed him for interrogation.

Reynoso said she recently received the file including a court-authorized taped phone conversation in which Goico allegedly instructs Haitian businessman Pierre Kanzki to take steps to destabilize Martelly’s government.

Goico declined comment on the case
