Thunderstorms, downpours for much of the country

Santo Domingo. – Downpours and thunderstorms are expected for a large part of the country today Wednesday, as a low pressure system over Eastern Cuba combined with the prevailing east wind will increase cloudiness.

The National Meteorology Office (ONAMET) forecasts rains more frequent in the northwest, north, northeast, southeast, Central Mountains and Border Zone and maintains flash flood and mudslide alerts for Monte Plata and Duarte province, especially the low Yuna River basin (northeast).

It said precipitations will increase Thursday and Friday.

ONAMET said all coasts can expect higher than normal winds and waves, for which small craft should remain near shore and not venture out to sea.
