Santo Domingo.- The Inter-American Dialogue Thursday night bestowed the "Civic Commitment Award" on the Dignified Education Coalition for its outstanding work for society.
"For us the greatest reward will be when president elect Danilo Medina’s Administration complies with the law and approve the 2013 Budget with an allocation of not less than 4% of the GDP for pre-university education," said Coalition representative Magda Pepen, who received the award in the heaquarters of the OAS in Washington DC.
She said the award recognizes the social movements in Latin America and the Caribbean, which like them, struggle for the right to free education for all.
The Dialogue
"In the dialogue we’re truly inspired by this example of civil society which seeks to promote government responsibility and accountability in the Dominican Republic. That in fact is democracy," said Inter-American Dialogue president Michael Shifter.
