Santo Domingo.- The Senate recognized the prominent attorney Marino Vinicio Castillo (Vincho) for his contributions to the war on drug trafficking, corruption and organized crime.
The resolution submitted by Barahona senator Eddy Mateo also highlights Castillo’s work to "advance the best interests of the nation."
Senate president Reinaldo Pared who headed the activity, said the lawyer’s life is comparable with the late president Juan Bosch’s thought when he said "the nation isn’t used, it’s served."
"If you speak about fighting corruption, Vincho Castillo has also been at the forefront, in the first line, the front row. If to fight all the evils which he feels certain sectors of our society carry with them, we’ve also had Vincho as the first soldier fighting on behalf of this nation we love so much and which is called the Dominican Republic," the lawmakers said.
Castillo has been the target of at least one documented assassination attempt, and two of his bodyguards have been gunned down under unclear circumstances during the last two years.
