Alleged top hacker sent to prison to await trial

Santo Domingo. – At least eight police agents on Tuesday afternoon escorted Jose A. Gomez Canaan (Jochy) to Najayo prison, where he’ll be held during three months to await trial.

Judge Jose Alejandro Vargas sent Gomez to prison last week as the investigation continues into charges of identity theft and hacking the emails of over 40 people, including business leaders and officials.

Upon leaving the cellblock at the Ciudad Nueva Courthouse, his lawyers said they would appeal the court’s decision.
