Nine injured in Moca jail riot

Santo Domingo.-Six prisoners and three guards were injured during yesterday’s prison riot inLa Isleta Correction and Rehabilitation Center in Moca.

The unrest is reported to haveerupted at noon following a drugs confiscation.

Two of the injured guards were namedas Francisco Cabrera and Milanés. The injured prisoners’ names have not been releasedbut according to reports they burned mattresses, and broke toilets and water tanks.

The authorities had tointervene to restore order and the injured prisoners were taken to a local medicalcenter for treatment.

Prison director Adolfo Serrataconfirmed that the riot was caused after prison guards confiscated drugs that prisoners were trying to smuggle into the center.
