Yet another security force deployed at the Haiti border

Santo Domingo.- Dominican Republic will deploy yet another security contingent to safeguard the border with Haiti, called the "Secure Border Task Force."

In making the announcemment Tuesday, Maj. Gen. Rubén Darío Paulino said the Army’s new military entity will reinforce the border from Montecristi in the north to Pedernales in the south.

He said three groups of 30 men will form the Task Force units, which will be in action next Saturday.

Each of the trucks will be equipped with computers, night vision equipment, ATVs, motorcycles, radio and other logistics to fight smuggling, drug and people trafficking, cattle rustling and other crimes.

During a tour of the border installations, the military official met with farmers in Montecristi, Manzanillo, Dajabón, Restauracion and Loma de Cabrera, who expressed their concern with livestock theft.

The Task Force will bolster the Specialized Border Security Corps (Cesfront), and will build barracks in Pedernales, Elías Piña and Dajabón, to deploy patrols throughout the border, where Customs, Immigration and other agents operate.
