Santo Domingo.- The tainted salami row has reached the political arena, when ex president Hipolito Mejia suggested that president Danilo Medina give Consumer Protection Agency (Proconsumidor) director Altagracia Paulino a "public scolding" for harming local producers
But the feisty Paulino fired right back, calling Mejia’s rebuke of her complaint on salami’s low quality, a defense of an industry which the ex president forms part of.
Via Twitter, Pronconsumidor said in addition to the farming sector, Mejia’s family is linked to Induveca, Dominican Republic’s biggest meat processing company.
"There’s no need to take him into account, you insult who you can, not who you want," says the tweet, which notes that the ex president speaks on behalf of his sector.
