“Major” Dominican drug trafficker extradited to the U.S.

Santo Domingo. – The Dominican Government Wednesday afternoon extradited a plane mechanic wanted in the United States on drug trafficking charges, and together with other individuals is accused of forming part of a network headed by Mexican nationals who smuggled dozens of tons of cocaine from Colombia, into the Caribbean and North America.

The accused, Miguel Antonio Rosa Ureña, aka El Gato, was escorted under tight security by National Drug Control (DNCD) agents aboard an aircraft of a U.S. federal agency, which had landed at the San Isidro Airbase.

Rosa was arrested in July 2011 and has tried to avoid his extradition since.

Arrested in the case thus far have been Bertulucci Castillo, El Rey; the Lebanese Marwan Chebli Chebli, El Turco; and the Dominicans José Antonio Contreras, Pepe; and Leonel Gómez Guzmán, Leo.
