The Minister of Tourism, David Collado, gave the first speech on Monday to start the works to improve the storm drainage and complementary works of the Samaná boardwalk, with an investment of more than RD$400 million.

The work, an old demand of the residents of this important destination, will be carried out through the Executing Committee of Infrastructures of Tourist Zones (CEIZTUR) of the Ministry of Tourism (Mitur).

Minister Collado highlighted the impact that the work will have on the inhabitants of this municipality and the tourist development of Samaná.

“Today, I am here with you fulfilling my promise and attending to an old claim from all the residents of Santa Bárbara, starting the work to turn this boardwalk into a true tourist attraction,” said the official causing a standing ovation.

“President Luis Abinader has given us all the support to take as many actions as necessary to place this paradisiacal destination in the place it deserves, because Samaná’s time has come,” proclaimed the Minister of Tourism.

Improvement
The improvement of the pluvial drainage and other complementary works of the Samaná boardwalk consists of a set of hydraulic solutions to mitigate the floods that currently occur in this area during heavy rains.

This stage is based on the necessary intervention to improve the runoff of rainwater, from the sanitation of the ravine to its mouth in the sea, solid waste retention structure, dredging, and repair of the sheet piling wall.

It also contemplates the integral rescue of the urban and leisure space of the boardwalk in all the municipality’s seafront, which covers an intervention area of ​​1.3 kilometers.

It also includes a bike lane, a parking bay on the north and south sidewalks, a children’s play area, a gym, an outdoor meditation space, and a circulation space.

Also, the main entrance square with nine sales modules, two bathroom modules, two government offices, and two warehouses.

The work
The works are divided into four lots: the first contemplates the improvement of the storm drainage of the Samaná boardwalk at the cost of RD$144,143,579.94, while the second is the western section of the Santa Bárbara boardwalk for some RD$140,337,615.39.

The third is about the Eastern section for RD$83,162,458.82, and the fourth is the complementary works: Forecast and installation of electrical equipment and accessories at the cost of RD$38,5000,000.00, for a total amount of the work of RD$406,143,654.15.

Stage
This stage is based on the integral intervention to improve the runoff of rainwater, from the sanitation of the ravine to its mouth in the sea, solid waste retention structure, dredging, and repair of the sheet piling wall.

Rescue
In addition, the integral rescue of the urban and leisure space of the boardwalk in all the municipality’s seafront covers an intervention area of ​​1.3 kilometers.
