Former Dominican drug czar goes to max lockup

Santo Domingo.- Former president of the National Directorate for Drug Control (DNCD), Félix Alburquerque, who was sentenced to one year in pretrial detention for the murder of communicator Manuel Duncan, will be held in the maximum security area of the prison Najayo, in which the former officials accused of leading the most important corruption cases remain.

It is the space for people who could have great enemies or whose cases are of high importance. According to the General Directorate of Prisons, the treatment of these inmates only varies in terms of security.

“All the renovated facilities have a maximum security and high notoriety area with a special protocol, because security is different, they have no contact with the regular population and they are in accommodation totally separate from the regular population,” said Solangel Valdez, of the Communications Department of the Directorate of Prisons.
